5 Enchanting Places to Visit on Your Day Trip to Salem, MA

Exploring the Enchanting Sites of Salem

Salem, Massachusetts, is a city rich in history, mystery, and a touch of magic for those willing to believe. Famous for its infamous witch trials of 1692, Salem today combines historical landmarks with enchanting experiences for adventurous visitors. Let's explore my favorite places from my day trip away from Boston!

 Salem Witch Museum

Naturally, you must stop here when you reach Salem! The museum provides an immersive experience, delving into the events surrounding the 1692 witch trials. Through life-size stage sets, figures, and narration, you are not just a visitor but a part of the 17th century, witnessing the hysteria and understanding the injustice that marked this dark period. It's a captivating experience that will engage you and make you ponder the power of a single lie.

 Crown Haven Corner

Crown Haven Corner was my last stop before I sprinted to the train station to take me back to Boston! This is the oldest witch shop in Salem, a must-stop destination since the city is renowned for its witch shops.

Candles blessed by the famous witch Lorelei fill this place. You can also have crystals, lanterns, tarot cards…just name it! It's a really cool shop that kind of sweeps you in. Indeed, I bought two candles here. Do I believe in crystals and witchcraft? I do! After many, many years of thinking it was all bullshit, too. If you don't believe in it, then consider visiting this shop to be part of the charm of Salem. You have nothing to lose!

 Lappin Park (Be Witched Statue)

Lappin Park is home to the iconic 'Be Witched' statue, a tribute to the beloved 1960s television show 'Bewitched.' The sculpture, which depicts actress Elizabeth Montgomery as Samantha Stephens, is a popular spot for fans of the show. I HAD to go there because when I visit my friend in Telluride, Colorado, we always watch ‘Bewitched,' and it was a perfect little text I could send her.

Around this park, there are several shops and cafés, so I chose a great little coffee place called Gulu-Gulu Café. I only stayed for a hot second to have a coffee, but I could have stayed here for the whole afternoon because of how charming the place was. It was the perfect spot to work on Wandering Bel or read a book!

 Ascend

This is my favorite little store in Salem! I had it on my list while researching places to visit, and it did not disappoint. This metaphysical supply store offers crystals, jewelry, and home goods as well as psychic and tarot readings. I tried their famous aura photography, which uses an Aura Camera® 6000. This camera connects to charged metal plates that read your hands and capture your aura in a colorful portrait.

I had a reading before, but this one felt different. The reader was lovely, and we chatted for about 40 minutes. My reading revealed that life has been challenging since January 20, especially in DC, and my trip to Salem was a much-needed escape. My aura came out more grounded than I expected, and it even made me ponder how I could be so grounded when the world and my job are going to shit. But maybe the magic of Boston and Salem helped in that?

If you're curious about your aura, I highly recommend this place! You'll feel safe and at peace. And don't worry if you don't opt for a reading; their jewelry is fantastic—I bought a smoky quartz ring that I still wear!

 Enchanted of Salem

Enchanted of Salem is a magical shop that piqued my interest when a friend of mine told me to visit. It's a super darling shop filled with crystals, unique gifts, and a make-your-own-spell bag.

Here, at the last minute, I booked a tarot card reading. It was interesting since I have a dear friend who reads cards for me, and we discuss the reading. Afterward, some of the reading she has done since she read my cards before, let's…well, let's say I am not a mom - ha!

But what surprised me the most was the unexpected charm of the shop. It didn’t have the dark and gloomy vibes you expect from a witch shop, yet it was enchanting, and it really put me at ease. I didn't realize how much I was smiling until later!

 Conclusion

Salem is a city that seamlessly blends its rich historical heritage with modern attractions and enchanting experiences. You explore the past at the Salem Witch Museum, enjoy the charm of various magical shops, or hang out with Samantha and try to wiggle your nose! Salem will always hold a special place in my heart.
