Vinyl and Vibes: Why Press Club DC is Your New Dupont Go-To

If your idea of a perfect night involves a cozy, softly lit room, the warm crackle of a record spinning, and a beautifully crafted cocktail that feels like a piece of art, then you definitely want to check out Press Club. Nestled in Dupont Circle right next to Kramer’s bookstore, this isn't just any DC bar—it’s a charming "listening lounge" that wonderfully combines the retro vibe of a 70s cocktail spot with sleek, modern design. I’ve been eager to visit since they opened, and I’m excited to say I’ve been three months in a row! This place has become my second-favorite bar in DC! It’s the perfect haven for a solo night out or a “girl date”, all while enjoying vinyl records that range from Kanye West to other great artists of the 1970s.

Let’s go on a Dupont adventure, shall we?

The Atmosphere: Moody, Cozy, and Unpretentious

When you walk into Press Club, all your outside worries seem to melt away. It feels like stepping into a cozy, retro living room—imagine warm wood paneling, calming shades of green and pink on the comfy chairs, and gentle lighting that casts a cinematic glow on everyone. With about 22 seats, it creates an intimate, welcoming atmosphere—like being warmly greeted at a special gathering at your music-loving friend's home. Places like this truly touch my heart; if you haven’t noticed, I really love peaceful, cozy vibes with charming touches like here, where the menus are served inside actual 45-rpm record sleeves! The staff here are exceptional; they warmly welcome you, get to know your preferences, and recommend the best dishes for you!

The Music: An Ode to Vinyl Records

The heart of this experience is the charming dual-turntable setup. Unlike typical bars where music is just an afterthought, here it truly takes center stage, creating an inviting atmosphere. The bartenders are like "vibe curators," thoughtfully selecting LPs that range from energetic 70s funk and disco to lively 90s hip-hop and indie rock.

They don’t just play short clips; they often share entire records, celebrating the "no-skip album.' Watching a bartender gently flip a record while stirring your drink creates a special, grounding rhythm I've come to relate to since September, when I started exploring vinyl. There’s something about listening to the whole album straight through, then flipping it, that feels more intentional! This is something you can't quite get from a digital playlist.

And sometimes they do specials like four drinks and some food based on an artist. The last two specials they did were for Oasis and Bad Bunny!

Know Before You Go

Because the space is so intimate, it fills up fast. While they do welcome walk-ins (especially great for solo diners), it is strongly recommended to make a reservation in advance, especially for parties of two or more on the weekends. This isn't the kind of place you want to leave to chance. Also, they rotate food and drinks, which is awesome, but sad since my favorite drink was a night in Egypt, a whiskey-based drink! I hope they do, but you really can’t go wrong with their drinks. It is so much fun to watch them craft each drink!

Final Thoughts

Even if vinyl isn't really your thing, I genuinely think you'll enjoy this place. Every time I bring friends here, they've fallen in love with it! It's such a lovely spot to take a break in a busy city — to relax, chat, and enjoy delicious food, drinks, and music. I'd love to hear your thoughts about this place, and don't forget to share your favorite food and drink in the comments!
